Discovering your talents later in life.

The latest rendition of A Star Is Born has generated a lot of buzz via their well-planned internet ad campaign and as proof of its success, even if you haven’t seen the movie yet, you’re probably planning on it. Bare minimum, you probably know that Bradley Cooper actually became a musician for this role. I think he did well! The Shallow has received a lot of momentum online and it led me to this video on the film.

There is nothing that I enjoy more than witnessing a person discover they have musical talent, especially later in life! Its exciting to see kids learn they have talent but its truly special to witness someone that has ultimately lived a lifetime already just to find out they can sing. I had a student like this somewhat recently. He came to me for vocal lessons in his mid-fifties and he had been playing guitar in a band and was curious if he would be able to sing background vocals. He came in with a very healthy skepticism about his ability so I was pretty floored when we started running some exercises and…he sounded great! I sat there and was amazed that he had gotten this far in life and had no idea he could sing and for that matter sing well. I felt privileged to be the one to verify that he could indeed sing and to push him out into the world performing as a singer too.

Don’t be afraid to pull a Bradley Cooper, folks! You’ll never know if you don’t try and you just may find out that you’re destined to star alongside Lady Gaga….or at least enjoy singing background vocals in your band. Check out the video link for fans of the film:
