5 Tips on How to Practice Singing

Make it a habit!

Find a routine that works for you.

Each week people sign up for voice lessons and when class comes to a close, the question arises: how do I practice? Well, for starters, I created my video lesson library and free lesson videos sections for exactly this purpose! These videos are examples of workouts you should be doing in your own time. You can practice with my videos or practice in the way that I practice in these videos.

1. Warm up your voice before singing: Just like any other physical activity, warming up your vocal cords is essential before singing. Start with simple vocal exercises like lip trills or scales to loosen up your voice and prevent strain.

2. Practice regularly: Routine is everything! Consistent practice is key to improving your singing skills. Set aside dedicated time each day to practice singing, even if it's just for a few minutes. This will help you build muscle memory and improve your vocal technique over time.

3. Record yourself: Recording yourself while singing can be a great way to track your progress and identify areas for improvement. Listen back to your recordings with a critical ear and make note of any areas where you can work on your technique or pitch. you don’t need to record much, even just a couple of minutes to listen back to and assess!

4. Work on breathing techniques: Proper breathing is essential for singing with power and control. Practice diaphragmatic breathing exercises to strengthen your breath support and improve your vocal tone. Focus on breathing deeply from your diaphragm and maintaining a steady flow of air while singing.

5. Seek feedback from a vocal coach or mentor: Working with a vocal coach or mentor can provide valuable feedback and guidance on your singing technique. They can help you identify and correct any bad habits, provide personalized exercises to improve your voice, and offer support and encouragement as you work towards your singing goals.
