The One Thing Singers Forget to Do When Dealing with Allergy problems is…

Refill!

YES, ITS THAT TIME YEAR AGAIN. So you’ve got a routine and it mostly works at this point (If you don’t, see my previous blog on how to deal with allergies). You know what you need to do to get your voice working better for you but something still isn’t right! Congestion aside, one thing singers often forget when dealing with allergy problems is staying properly hydrated. Allergies, especially when combined with medications like antihistamines, can lead to dryness in the vocal cords and throat. Dehydration exacerbates this issue, making the vocal folds less flexible and more prone to strain or damage.

While singers may focus on managing symptoms like congestion, runny nose, or post-nasal drip, they might overlook the importance of consistently drinking enough water. Hydration keeps the mucus lining of the vocal cords thin and smooth, allowing for better vocal fold function and reducing irritation.

Load up that water bottle (64 oz if you can!) and keep at it all day. See if it helps! For more personalized tips, please sign up for a lesson using the link below:
