The True Power of a Vocalist…

The True Power of a vocalist lies not in what we say but how we say it.

The true power of a vocalist lies not in what we say but how we say it. I was working with a young vocalist this week and realized how important this message is for so many singers to digest! In an effort to encourage someone to allow themselves to be vulnerable, I pulled up the following performance:

Those are real tears, and those are real trembles in her voice and you can tell that she means every word coming out of her mouth! Watching this just tore me up- it made me hurt with her too. We all have raw emotions: Anger, pure joy, disappointment, frustration, whatever it is, it is a part of the human experience! The most important thing a singer can do is to allow themselves to feel those emotions and conjure those raw emotions out of their audiences. It brings us all together for those passing moments and reminds us of what connects us to each other. Powerful! Let a performance like this remind you that its okay to let go- your audience will be moved and they will thank you for making you FEEL.
